So… where did it all begin?

As a Devonshire boy, born and bred in Plymouth, I dedicated myself to pursuing a career in the performing arts from a very early age. In 1999, I joined my local Stagecoach Theatre Arts School and, throughout my 11-year journey there, played a diverse range of roles in productions ranging from Little Shop of Horrors to devised plays. This sparked my fascination with becoming an improvisational comedian alongside my acting career, which later led me to pursue one of my childhood dreams of becoming a pantomime comic.

 

I moved to Guildford to develop my craft further at the Performance Preparation Academy before continuing to study Musical Theatre at the London College of Music, part of the University of West London, in 2015. Since then, I have toured throughout the UK and performed many successful incarnations of my stage act, combining singing, stand-up comedy and madcap antics, on cruise ships and in theatres and hotels across the UK and abroad.

 

2023 saw me make my television acting debut, taking on the younger incarnation of Mark Williams' titular character in BBC's Father Brown, and shortly afterwards I was offered roles in Doctors and BritBox's Sister Boniface Mysteries (both also for BBC Studios).

 

In that same year, I won a place on the world's first year-long Master's degree in Contemporary Pantomime Practice at the University of Staffordshire (previously Staffordshire University). Having become one of the first people to achieve the MA, with news of my award gaining widespread media attention, I made my pantomime debut in 2024 in the role of Silly Simon in Jack and the Beanstalk at The Corn Hall in Diss, Norfolk, with SparkLive Pantomimes. Back by popular demand (The Corn Hall's words... not mine), I will be returning for my third season later this year, playing Wishee Washee in Aladdin, from 18th December to 3rd January 2027.

 

I recently appeared as the rather enthusiastic Bingo Host in the debut episode of BBC's brand-new drama series The Hairdresser Mysteries, led by Bridget Jones star Sally Phillips and produced by Mill Bay Media for BBC Studios Drama Productions. I have just completed filming the upcoming Academy Short Aria Starlight, directed by Simon Elvin and produced by independent film production company Aria Starlight Pictures and Olivier Award-nominated actor Alex Gaumond, playing the role of Melody's father, Oscar.

As a presenter, I was invited to perform alongside, and present awards to, some of the UK's biggest pop groups at the 2001 and 2002 Disney Channel Kids Awards ceremonies. Over a decade later, I went on to produce and co-present my self-penned radio show, The Jeff Parlett and Benny Bright Show, on Blast Radio, broadcasting from the legendary Ealing Studios between 2012 and 2015.
